Junior Achievement is a volunteer program to promote work-readiness, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy skills. It uses experimental learning to inspire students to dream big and reach their full potential. Thanks to the community's financial and human resources, students will learn through JA, the importance of soft skills, money management and how business works.
Muhlenberg Mentors, a school-based mentoring program, matches caring adults from the community with students in need of of additional support. Trained adults work one-on-one with students one day a week for up to one hour. This program's primary focus is to provide referred youth a positive role model, resulting in increased social and emotional development.
Each Telecommunicator must complete the Department of Criminal Justice Telecommunications Academy at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Kentucky. The academy is 168 hours of training in seven different area. Communication personnel are re-certified annually by attending in-service classes conducted by the DOCJT.
The academy consists of the following seven areas:
(1) Basic Telecommunications
(2) Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS)
(3) Emergency Medical Dispatch
(4) Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation(CPR)
(5) Critical Incidents
(6) Spanish for the Telecommunicator
(7) Incident Command, Homeland Security

Must be able to type 25 words per minute
Must be at least 18 years of age
Must be willing to attend training in Richmond, KY
Must not have been convicted of any felonies
Must be flexible and able to work various shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays.
Must have patience and exercise good customer service to callers and units, regardless of their background
Must have people skills and be able to work with responders as well as the general public
Must be able to multi-task, such as answering phones and multiple units on the radio all while understanding and comprehending each of them at the same time.
Must have good communication skills
Must be loyal to their duty, responders, and co-workers
Must understand and exercise the confidentiality policy
